Windows on Main Street August 8th - September 12th 2009 in Beacon, NY

Ty Marshall is taking the curatorial reigns of "Windows On Main Street", which is entering it's fifth season!

Each year, quality artists are paired with a storefront window in Beacon, NY for a month long installation. The artist picks a window on Main Street and Ty sets up a meeting with the artist and the business owner to establish the parameters for that particular window. For example, a business owner may specify that the artist should:

leave a certain amount of light coming through
work around an object that may already be in the window

These parameters will vary with each business (there are many on Main Street) creating a wonderful "problem" for the artist to solve in the presentation of their design ideas. The possibilities are endless.
I encourage any artists who are interested to think outside of the normal medium they tend to use. I am NOT seeking artists to HANG PAINTINGS but to create an entirely new piece for each window. One of the themes here is to create a dialogue between an artist and a business owner, to promote understanding and collaboration, and to promote both the arts and local business.

The project runs from the second Saturday in August to the second Saturday in September 2009.

July 2009 is the installation month

It is going to be hopping this summer in the Hudson Valley because we are celebrating the 400 year anniversary of Henry Hudson sailing up the Hudson and I expect lots of exposure for participating artists. I am reaching out to the Syracuse community and beyond to generate interest among artists interested in traveling to Beacon to create a piece in one of our Main Street Windows as a visiting artist.

Call for Artists: "A Taste of the Sublime"

The Fenimore Art Museum is now accepting submissions for the second annual A Taste of the Sublime, to be held Saturday, August 8, 2009, on the museum's spacious grounds overlooking Otsego Lake .

A Taste of the Sublime is a juried art invitational that welcomes artists from across New York State in a celebration of the historic relationship between the artists and the landscape that surrounds us. The event features food and beverage tasting, en plein air painting, family activities, tours of the world-class collections at the Fenimore Art Museum , and -- most importantly -- landscape artists exhibiting, demonstrating, and selling their work.

Last year’s event was a great success with almost 700 people in attendance on a beautiful August day. This year, we will be offering a new slate of prize categories, as well as introducing a few new activities and highlights throughout the day.

Invitation: Art in the Heart of the City 2009

The Downtown Ithaca Alliance (DIA) is pleased to invite artist applications for its 10^th annual outdoor public art exhibition, Art in the Heart of the City. The deadline is April 15th for 2-5 works to be installed in mid-June, for exhibition June – November, 2009 on and around the famous outdoor Ithaca Commons pedestrian mall.

Guidelines:

Download the prospectus for guidelines, information about stipends, and application process. Additional information and iIllustrative exhibition site options can be viewed at the Alliance web site (www.downtownithaca.com). Both experienced and emerging artists are encouraged to apply.

Jury:

The Alliance has commissioned a jury comprised of leading art experts and Ithaca community leaders to select featured artists for the 2009 exhibition. Jurists include Patricia Phillips, Chair and Professor, Cornell University Art Department; Franklin Robinson, Cornell’s Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art; and Sydney Waller, Executive Director of Sculpture Space in Utica, NY.

Theme:

This year's theme - “Celebrating Art in a Just and Sustainable Community” - is meant to be a broad, open ended invitation for all artists and sculptors. Ithaca is at the national forefront of sustainable community practices and thought. This exhibition will help celebrate and illustrate the diverse ways people can define and contribute to a sustainable community. All styles, mediums, and materials are invited and welcome, subject to the criteria for public art described in the attached. Please note that this is an inclusive theme and is not meant to be restrictive for artists or to limit applicants to recyclable or green materials.

The Erie Canal Museum in Syracuse is hosting a juried art exhibition of contemporary art work which expresses artists' interpretation of New York's waters and waterways.

The exhibit is scheduled for July 3 - October 2.

Earlville Opera House Gallery Call for Artists

The Earlville Opera House Art Gallery invites artists to submit slides or digital images of recent work for review for the 2009 - 2010 exhibition schedule of 10-11 solo exhibitions featuring regional and national contemporary visual artists in all media.

High quality work by professional and emerging artists who live part-time or full-time in the Central New York region are given priority. Artists from greater New York or outside New York State are also considered. All media and styles are considered, as are installations and proposals by curators.

Lipe Art Park Catalog

The Lipe Art Park Summer Exhibit "Art Play" features the work of Aleks Slota and
Chelsea Cramer. The park is located in the Warehouse District along West Fayette Street.

Ty Marshal is seeking submissions from volunteers, artists, supporters, and groups who have been involved and/or are involved in the organization and exhibition of Lipe Art Park in Syracuse, New York for an up and coming “Lipe Art Park Catalog”.

This catalog will be issued in both paperback and hardcover editions, and serve as a record for future generations, as well as a fundraising tool for the continued support of Lipe Art Park to be administered by Friends of Lipe Art Park. The catalog intends to explore the history of the space, the conception and organization of the park, the opening of the park, as well as exhibitions that have taken place since then.

He is looking for pictures, press clippings, essays, artist statements, experiences, and memories to be considered for the final publication, due out in the Summer of 2009.

Baltimore Woods Nature Center Announces

Invitation to Visual Artists

Baltimore Woods Nature Center, a premier facility for nature education in Central NY, invites visual artists to submit work to be considered for exhibition in the John A. Weeks Interpretive Center gallery space.

Artwork must be nature-oriented, and suitable for audiences of all ages, from young children to seniors. Exhibits are for 2-month periods, and are viewed by a wide audience. BWNC focuses on presenting an artist's work in a solo exhibit, however, submissions for inclusion in group shows may also be considered. Work will be reviewed by committee. Submissions are currently being reviewed for Spring 2009 onward.

Cultural Resources Council Enhanced Regional Services Initiative

The Cultural Resources Council of Syracuse & Onondaga County, a regional arts council, is in search of individuals to serve on an advisory board which will help us determine, maintain and improve our services to the regional communities of Onondaga, Cortland and Oswego Counties.
We want your expertise as people living in these communities to assist us in planning and delivering arts and cultural services in the region.
The CRC in it's role as an arts council has expanded it's reach and services into Oswego and Cortland Counties. To this end we need people from each of the three counties to work with us to increase, improve, and expand awareness of arts and culture - this initiative is designed to assist the individual counties as well as to develop strategies for regional collaborations.
The CRC seeks a cross section of individuals to become part of this process which will include the general public, artists, administrators, educators, the religious community, and from ethnic specific organizations.
